Ponyfish (Kaaral)

This vibrant fish has a long, slender body and a colorful mane-like dorsal fin. They are found in shallow coral reefs and feed on algae. Ponyfish can change their color to blend in with their surroundings. Common in coastal waters, particularly the southeast coast (Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh). Pony fish often have higher calcium content due to their bones being edible.
